A little about me:
While originally from the Boston area, I sound out my ‘r’s at the end of words like a proper Midwesterner. 😊 I still cheer for the Red Sox and Patriots and love to vacation on Cape Cod. My husband, Ryan, and I have been married for 23 year and have four children - three boys and a girl. This past year, I had one in college, one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary school – crazy right?! And we recently introduced a puppy into our household - Buster. (I’ve learned to never say never!).
My journey into teaching group fitness:
I’ve been practicing yoga for 20 years but became certified with the Heather’s Gym team about two years ago. I wasn’t sure if I would do anything with the certification, but Heather immediately welcomed me in, and I’ve fallen in love with teaching this powerful ancient practice. Every instructor has their own style - mine tends to be quick moving and flowing with complex sequences, combined with fun and meaningful music. Power flow yoga helps me clear my mind because to follow the sequence you need to be right in the moment. No time to think about anything else! The breath work that comes with yoga is so helpful in everyday life. I hope that other people can learn about their thought patterns, strengths and weaknesses while practicing on the mat. Being more aware of themselves, they can bring about small shifts that will ultimately make bigger impacts on their lives. The yoga mat creates a safe spot to practice things and take them off the mat.
If I wasn’t a fitness instructor…
I’d be doing something with food or event planning. My entire life I have gravitated toward conversations, events or volunteer roles that tap into one or both of those subjects.

The book I just finished was:
The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. Read it in February (so it’s not the lasts book I finished, but I loved it!!) I’m a busy person, filing up my calendar with little margin. This book challenges the “why” of that life approach and gives practical solutions for slowing down. And then the world stopped turning, so I’ve been given this unique opportunity to try out this concept and put new behaviors into practice.
New hobby or renewed hobby I’ve picked up during sheltering at home:
I recently redid my laundry room. Painted cabinets and countertops wallpapered and organized it. It’s bright and cheery with turquoise colors and lemons as the theme. I tend to be a perfectionist with myself but am working on changing that. This laundry room project did just that. It’s fun, but definitely a DIY project done by a non-DIYer.
A fun, random fact about me is:
When my three boys were young, I self-published a cookbook titled “making time for dinner”. I taught meal planning/food prep classes to young moms. I designed an organizer note pad to help coordinate schedules, to-do lists and goals for the week, while wrapping it around the concept of planning and making healthy home-cooked meals for the family.
Heather is a lawyer-turned-fitness studio owner. She is a Platinum member of the Todd Durkin Mastermind Group and she is on the Board of Directors for MainStreet Libertyville.
Heather found her true purpose: motivating her community to find balanced fitness and feel great! She is ACE Certified, Yoga Alliance certified, among numerous other certifications, and a former endurance athlete.
